Meghan Markle may have grown up in Hollywood, but it doesn't seem to be her glamorous lifestyle which attracted Prince Harry.
The Suits star , who has reportedly been romancing the flame-haired royal for a number of months, has several shared interests with the prince, including humanitarian work, and she's opened up about her two contrasting worlds on her blog.
Stunning Meghan, 35, runs lifestyle website The Tig, in which she welcomed fans into her life, talking about how she was brought up by a clinical therapist mum and a father who worked as a television lighting director.
In a post entitled ‘How To Be Both’, shared at the end of last month, she writes: "I’m consistently asked how I keep a foot in two contrasting worlds – one in the entertainment industry, predicated on wealth and indulgence, and the other in humanitarian work.
"To me, it’s less of a question of how can you do this, and more a question of how can you not?"
Speaking about her upbringing, she said: "I was born and raised in Los Angeles, a California girl who lives by the ethos that most things can be cured with either yoga, the beach, or a few avocados.
"I’m being cheeky, clearly, but it speaks to the temperament I grew up around. With a free-spirited clinical therapist for a mom, and the most hardworking father you can imagine (a television lighting director by trade), I always had a foot in two worlds, because their work and home environments were so vastly different.
"With my mom, we spent time traveling to remote places – taking trips to Oaxaca, Mexico where I saw children play in the dirt roads, peddling chiclets for a few extra pesos to bring home. My mother raised me to be a global citizen, with eyes open to sometimes harsh realities.
"I must have been about ten years old when we visited the slums of Jamaica. I had never seen poverty at that level and it registered in my glazed brown eyes. ‘Don’t look scared, Flower," she said. ‘Be aware, but don’t be afraid."
Meghan and Harry, 32, were rumoured to have met earlier this year, with the actress making several low-key visits to London to see her beau, where she has not only met his friends but also his brother Prince William and wife Kate.
A source said: "He’s happier than he's been for many years. He’s in a very relaxed period of his life and Meghan has come along at the right time."
Although she has kept quiet, Meghan posted a photo on Instagram in which she wears a blue bracelet almost identical to one of Harry’s .
The Toronto-based star is yet to speak about her blossoming romance, but it’s been reported she’s spent time with Harry in both Toronto and London.
They also have mutual friends, including Violet Von Westenholz and Arthur Landon.
