SHANGHAI -- At least 11 people have been killed and thousands of homes have been damaged by heavy rains in China, officials in Guizhou Province said Sunday.
Torrential rains that began Wednesday have causes flash floods and landslides that have damaged the homes of about 980,000 people.
The provincial civil affairs bureau told China's Xinhua news agency that rescue and relief operations were continuing as forecasters called for more rain through Monday.
Rain was also causing problems in Anhui Province in eastern China and Hunan Province in the central region of the nation, Xinhua said. The city of Shanghai was also being drenched.
About 600 people stranded by flood waters had to be rescued in Anhui and more than 317,300 people in Hunan have been evacuated from their homes in Hunan Province, Xinhua said.
