New Zealand gears up for floods, following heavy rains ­Evacuation centers have opened in northern parts of New Zealand, ready to react to heavy flooding in the region. More than two months' worth of rain has fallen there in just two days, cutting off communications and covering roads and farmlands with muddy water. Several stranded residents have already been rescued. More rain and strong winds are expected within the next 24 hours, and locals are advised to stay indoors and avoid travel.

The King of Tonga, George Tupov V, has passed away in a Hong Kong hospital. The news was confirmed by the Prime Minister of Tonga, Lord Siale’ataonga Tu’ivakano, a short time ago.
