Police Thwart Rebel Attack On Kampala. BUT I find it hard to believe anything they say
Kampala Police have revealed they seized four suspected rebels in Kisseka market and Rubaga, a Kampala suburb on a mission to destabilize Uganda.
The suspects were found in possession of guns, according to a statement issued by police on Monday evening.
“The four admitted to Police that they had been armed to destabilize the country,” the statement read in part.
“They were to put on Police uniforms which they had got illegally and during the confusion they would shot at civilians so that the blame is put to Police.”
The alleged arrests come just hours after heavily armed police and military personnel were deployed to contain protests masterminded by opposition leaders Col Kizza Besigye and Erias Lukwago.
“Two of the guns that were recovered were recently robbed from Nakifuma Police Station in Mukono district,” said Police.
“The Police have got information that the unlawful organization, “For God and my Country (4GC)”, is organizing several activities to cause widespread and sustained violence and destruction, and in the process, destabilize peace and security in the country and to over throw the government using unconstitutional means,” the law enforcement body said.
“We want to inform the public to be calm as the security situation is normal and people are going about doing their normal business,” the statement concluded.
The identities of the arrested persons remain unclear.
Police publicist Judith Nabakooba was not readily available for comment.
