It sounds like a problem Louisiana might be forced to endure for years to come.

The Coast Guard’s Capt. Samuel Walker, the coordinator of the cleanup, acknowledged Tuesday that his agency is not even requiring BP to find the buried oil that unquestionably still exists in the Gulf.

Anyone who has paid attention to the Gulf oil spill’s ecological calamity and the cleanup efforts that have taken place from then until now knows that the need for cleanup remains. And it will remain until BP finds and removes the oil its spill dumped into the Gulf of Mexico.

We in south Louisiana will live for decades with the result of this cleanup. The Coast Guard owes it to us to do its job by making sure BP does its job.
