Vengeance or Forgiveness?
A lot of my ideas and writings come from movies, the morals and lessons that you can learn from them.
In this thought /offering today, I want to talk about VENGEANCE or FORGIVENESS.
My latest insight came from the tribes in South Africa, and since it comes from a movie, I suppose the fact that it is or isn't true doesn't really matter. The source of this posting is noted at the end of my message. It reflects the truth of both acts, VENGEANCE and FORGIVENESS.
When someone is murdered, in this case South Africa, and the victim's family and the accused are named and brought out into the light, there is a special Ceremony that takes place. Feasting and Celebrations are held, a bit like a Gathering after a funeral, but the most important act is at Dawn, the next morning...
The accused is taken and placed in a boat, tied and gagged, with weights placed on the feet. Then, the accused is set afloat and dumped in the water before the victim's family's eyes. The victims and their family now have two choices
Either they let the accused sink and drown and rejoice in VENGEANCE, but live their whole life in mourning and guilt for what they have done,
Or they choose a much more difficult task: They must quickly swim to the boat and rescue the accused from his death and practice FORGIVENESS, which will immediately liberate them of all hardships and suffering, and they will go on to live a happy and normal life.
Which do YOU choose?
