JOHN PILGER: Have a Nice World War, Folks
Here is news of the Third World War. The United States has invaded Africa. US troops have entered Somalia, extending their war front from Afghanistan and Pakistan to Yemen and, now, the Horn of Africa. In preparation for an attack on Iran, American missiles have been placed in four Persian Gulf states, and "bunker-buster" bombs are said to be arriving at the US base on the British island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.
2010 Leaked CIA Report: "Public Apathy Enables Leaders To Ignore Voters" In Waging Endless Wars.
Public apathy enables leaders to ignore voters. The report is discussing apathy among the French and German people to their countries' involvement in the war in Afghanistan, but the same is true to the apathy of Americans towards the Iraq and other wars as well. from Dan Fey

In light of President Obama's recent budget proposal that inconsistently both supports and rejects nuclear energy, the author argues that it is time to stop an energy policy working at cross-purposes with economic policy. Expanding access to oil and natural gas reserves would create high-paying jobs, bring billions of dollars of revenue into federal and state treasuries and provide consumers with more clean-burning natural gas.
General Stanley McChrysta's televised apology for the civilian casualties caused by a recent NATO airstrike in Afghanistan was a necessary step toward healing the resentment that many Afghans feel toward the U.S. killing innocent civilians -- even unintentionally - - is a prescription for defeat. The next step, however, is to understand that foreign military occupation . . . is not the solution, but rather part of the problem because of the resentment it creates.
A secular coalition led by Ayad Allawi, a former prime minister, won a wafer-thin victory, but challenges to the outcome could threaten plans to withdraw American troops.
With 2.4 Million Jobs Lost to China, New Trade Battle Begins -
A new report released by the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) underscores how between 2001 and 2008, 2.4 million US jobs were eliminated or displaced due largely to the flooding of the U.S. market with Chinese goods priced artificially low due to apparent Chinese government currency manipulation. "We have allowed the Chinese government to game the system for far too long, with serious consequences for the US economy," says the EPI report's author, economist Robert Scott. That's no longer much in doubt, but it's still not clear how far the administration will be willing to go to push China. Congressional action may force the administration's hand, at least in labeling China a currency manipulator next month, which could ultimately pave the way for tariffs on Chinese goods.

By Jerome Starkey
Jerome Starkey recently reported for The Times of London about a night raid on Feb. 12 in which U.S. and Afghan gunmen opened fire on two pregnant women, a teenage girl and two local officials -- an atrocity which NATO’s Afghanistan headquarters then tried to cover up. Now, in a blistering indictment of both NATO and his own profession, Starkey writes for Nieman Watchdog that the international forces led by U.S. Gen. Stanley McChrystal are rarely called to account because most reporters are too dependent on access, security and the 'embed culture' to venture out and see what's happening for themselves...
