Say 'NO' to NATO

June 4, 2005

From Set Tischler:

Thank you Israel,  for sizing up the significance of
the French <NON> to the European Constitution.

When all of the "unification business" started near
enough a half a century ago, it was to be an ECONOMIC
COMMUNITY. This slowly morphed (in the imperceptible
small steps which the pseudo-science of social
Darwinism calls for) into the present Fruit-Salad of a
POLITICAL UNION.  When the "honourable" D. Rumsfeld
started his huntingtonesque babble of OLD and NEW
Europe, he pointed out the sore spot in these elitist
designs: he was comparing apples and oranges.
The French have, as you so rightly point out, shown
the Eurocrats that they have been writing the bill
without involving the publican - no wonder that there
is a brawl brewing in the pub!  Opinion polls (in OLD
Europe) are apparently still meaningful. It seems
probable, that the Dutch will follow the lead of the
French - with that the elitist dream of a European
Union (should I not better use parantheses?) will be
sent back to the drawing board.  Maybe the peoples of
Europe will wake up to the fact, that they "have been
had".  Politicos, while having a marvellously good
time frolicking in fancy resorts, have been plotting
for decades:  how to maximise elitist profits from the
popular intent to not continue on the path to Biblical
Armageddon and Apocalypse.  The "Never Again" was
turned into something different altogether:  "beggar
they neighbour" (on the level of nations) was turned
into a "free for all" on a personal level.  The older
generation, knowing what the conflict of nations can
do to the individual were all for a new system that
would make a repeat of war in Europe an impossibility;
the hedonistic younger generation which had no idea
just how bad things can get,  was oblivious to logic.
Whereas anything technical (from tootpick to
jumbo-jet) has to go through innumerous stages of
testing before being permitted to be put to use, the
new concepts of maniacal theorists were applied
without a second thought.  The "old Order", which had
emerged from centuries of two steps forward and one
step back (or vice versa) had been a "living"
something that had been working (to various degrees -
but that is immaterial - it had been FUNCTIONAL).  The
fundamental misinterpretation of Schumpeter's dictum
of "creative destruction" had led to its brutal
reversal and turned into the DESTRUCTIVE CREATION (of
elitist profit) which rules the present world.   The
OLD system was maybe imperfect - but it was vibrantly
ALIVE!  It has been ruthlessly killed and will never
come back.
When a few years back the "rationalisation" of
private industry was running out of victims to
predatory capitalism, the elites changed tack and set
sail in the direction of destruction of the Nation
(Welfare) State.  It was demanded, that "public
service" had to be profitable - without acknowledging
the fact that already Lucretius had mused that "ex
nihilo nihil fit".  Over the last decade the public
wealth (not only of Europe!) was handed to
multinational corporations for a fraction of its real
worth - all in the manic pursuit of wanting to comply
with the designs of the New World Order.  The peoples
in the former Eastern Bloc are now realizing that they
had not known that they were happy under the old
system (nobody ever told them, that in the "free"
countries of the West it was not a few "systems
critics" who were lingering in jails, but a multitude
of this number for having failed to run in the
treadmill of consumerism).  The formerly "free"
Western countries are now dictatorships of majorities
(of which only mathematicians and computer geeks will
ever be able to figure out how they have come to be).
In countries like Austria, the latest perversion of
"democracy" (rule by a coalition of losers) has
created a system that managed to ratify the European
Constitution by way of a parlamentary vote. Maybe this
writer is not alone in wondering about the
constitutionality of that move. How much longer,
before the "voting cattle" in Representative
Democracies begin to see that the "representatives"
only REturn PRESENTs to those who they really
represent - the corporate elites?

Well, Israel, you call for the dissolution of NATO.
For what its worth, you have my support on that.  But
what would that mean?  Another baby tossed out with
the bath-water? Sure, (oil-)thirsty NEW European
nations would find that by backing "overseas" designs
to change the central European "map" they have been
cutting off the legs of the chair they have been
sitting on - but what else?  A Europe minus NATO were
"nice" - but would it cure all ills? When the E.U.
haemorrhages due to further <NO's> to a catalogue of
elitist pipe-dreams it will be too late - all the
assets have been squandered and "the good old days"
will never come back. The French <NO> has (in my view)
heralded the era of <Post Globalism>.  The problems
which the E.U. faces now are a fractal of what is
really happening - people all over the world are
beginning to wake up to the fact that J.W. Goethe was
correct: <Nobody is more enslaved than those who deem
themselves "free">.

Remember, last August you posted an article of mine
entitled <Democratic Revolt>.  Maybe the times are
"ripe" for a re-reading of it!

regards,
siegfried
