Hamas shoots rockets at Israeli town

Big News Network.com     Tuesday 7th June, 2005  (UPI)

Hamas said it fired rockets at the Israeli town of Sederot Tuesday, as Israeli forces killed a Palestinian police officer in an incursion into a West Bank city.

The al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas' military wing, said in a statement that its militants had fired five locally made rockets at Sederot in retaliation for an Israeli police raid on al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem Monday.

Desecrating al-Aqsa Mosque means an open-ended war against the enemy everywhere and by all available means, Hamas said, stressing that it would hold on to its arms as long as one inch of Palestinian territory is occupied by Israel.

Israeli sources confirmed the attack on Sederot and said a woman and her two children were hospitalized.

In the meantime, Israeli troops backed by armored personnel carriers and jeeps made an incursion into the city of Jenin, during which they killed one Palestinian police officer and injured another, a Palestinian source said.

He said the Israelis stormed several houses, including that of the commander of Islamic Jihad's al-Quds Brigades in the city.

The Israeli army said one of its soldiers was injured in the incursion in a clash with Palestinian militants.
