Opinion–Editorials » Blind Obedience to the Canons of Capitalism: Of Sick Societies, American Dalits, and a Nation of Lady Macbeths...In this essay, I analyze and dissect the avarice and gluttony inherent in US style Capitalism. Thanksgiving and the holiday season are focal points for my sharp criticism of our socioeconomic system. In this context, I assert that the problem of homelessness in the United States is a significant and concrete example of the moral bankruptcy of our systems, institutions, and leaders. Taking the reader through my Thanksgiving (which I spent serving meals to homeless individuals) and sharing some of the feelings and experiences I had when I was at rock bottom, I attempt to breathe some life into faceless, nameless abstractions.
